Question and Answer

What/who inspired you to get into this field?

I have always enjoyed tinkering with computers and trying to figure out how things worked. In high school I got a chance to take a couple of basic programming classes that got me hooked on coding, and I haven’t looked back since!

What classes would you recommend for this field (high school and college)?

If you’re lucky enough to have programming courses offered in your high school, definitely take them. If not, there are tons of great resources online to help you get started! In college, I found that any class that lets you tackle a problem from start to finish will be the most rewarding, especially if you get to choose your own topic for your project. Taking software from a problem to a potential fix to a working solution has always been my favorite aspect of working on software.

What are some other companies that employ graduates in this field?

Tons of companies are hiring software engineers, from game development companies like Nintendo and Electronic Arts, banks and insurance companies, and big tech companies like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and more.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

I find it incredibly rewarding to work on software that truly makes lives easier and gets jobs done more quickly. When I talk to somebody who has used the software I helped create and hear how they can do things faster, with more confidence and easier than ever before, I can’t help but be proud of what we’ve done as a team, and look forward to making things even better in the next update.
