About Automation Engineer
Question and Answer
What/who inspired you to get into this field?
My grandfather was a chemical engineer. He was raised by a single parent and worked hard following the Great Depression. He constantly reminded me I could become anything I wanted when I grew up, as long as I worked hard for it. I was very creative growing up and participated heavily in the music arts. Paired with my aptitude in the math and sciences that I discovered in classes and extracurricular activities, engineering was an ideal fit.
What classes would you recommend for this field (high school and college)?
Calculus, differential equations, chemistry, beginner computer programming courses
What are some other companies that employ graduates in this field?
Manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, health care, design and construction, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, food processing, specialty chemicals, microelectronics, electronic and advanced materials, polymers, biotechnology, and environmental health and safety companies.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love working with other engineers and scientists to develop and produce medicines that help people live longer, healthier lives.
