Pure Substances and Mixtures
Pure Substances: materials that are composed of only one type of particle and cannot be separated into any other substance by a mechanical means (cutting and reshaping)
Mixtures: materials that contain 2 or more pure substances able to separate by mechanical means (melting, filtering)
Homogeneous Mixture: Uniform in composition that is more difficult to separate into pure components
Examples: Air, Solutions (uniform)
Heterogeneous Mixture: not uniform composed of multiple parts that can be separated by mechanical means
Examples: Salad, trail mix, bag of nuts and bolts
