Phases of the Cell Cycle/Mitosis
Phases of the Cell Cycle/Mitosis
Interphase:
the largest phase
a. G1 (gap 1) – cell grow
b. S (synthesis) – DNA replicated
c. G2 (gap 2) – cell prepares to divide
Prophase:
cromatin condense into chromosomes
nucleolus dissapears
nuclear membrane dissolves and centromeres connect to spindle fibers
Metaphase:
chromosomes align at metaphase plate along the center of cell
they align due to opposite pull of centerosomes
Anaphase:
the proteins binding sister chromotids together break anddaughter chromosomes go to opposite ends of the cell
Telophase:
spindle fibers disappear
nucleolus reappears
nuclear membrane is formed
chromosomes → cromatin
Cytokinesis:
cell pinches apart by means of a contractile ring that tightens where the metaphase plate was
