Solving Systems of Equations with Multiplication and Addition

Use multiplication with the addition method to solve the equations:

  • -3(x+4y=16)
  • 3x+2y=-3

(-3x-12y)+ (3x+2y)=(-48)+(-3)

0x-10y=-51

-10y=-51

\frac{-10y}{-10y}=\frac{-51}{-10}

y=\frac{51}{10}

3x+2(\frac{51}{10})=-3

3x+\frac{102}{10}=-3-\frac{102}{10}

3x=-3-\frac{102}{10}

3x=-\frac{30}{10}-\frac{102}{10}

\frac{1}{3}\cdot 3x=-\frac{132}{10}\cdot\frac{1}{3}

x=-\frac{132}{10}\cdot\frac{1}{3}

x=-\frac{132}{30}
