Types of Graphs

Circle Graphs

 

  • Sometimes called pie graphs
  • usually show parts of a whole
  • not used to show change overtime
  • Example: percentage results

 

 

Line Graphs (x-y plots)

 

 

  • can be used to track change over time
  • used to compare the relationship between 2 things
  • if both variables increasing → positive relationship
  • if both variables decreasing → negative relationship

 

 

Bar Graphs

 

 

  • show large changes over time
  • compare things between different groups
  • Example: voting results
