Relative and Cumulative Frequency

relative frequency = \frac{observed\ frequency\ of\ an\ outcome}{total\ observations}

if you made 6 of 10 free throws, relative frequency = \frac{6}{10}=0.6

cumulative frequency – the total of a frequency and all of the frequencies below it in a frequency distribution, “running total” of frequencies

Data Set → 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 5

Score Frequency Relative Freq. Cumulative Freq.
1 2 \frac{2}{12}=\frac{1}{6} 2
2 5 \frac{3}{12}=\frac{5}{12} 7
3 4 \frac{4}{12}=\frac{1}{3} 11
4 0 0 11
5 1 \frac{1}{12} 12

total frequency = 12

cumulative frequency of score 3 = 11
