Graphing Linear Functions

In this example, we learn how to write and graph linear function given real-world information.

A plat is 3cm high the first day you measure it (Day 0). Each day after that the plant grows by 2cm. Write an equation connecting the weight and the number of days and draw its graph.

y=f(x)                                  height=f(day)                            2cm per day = 2 \cdot day

y=mx+b                             h=2d +3                                      initial height = 3cm

 Day  Height(cm)
0 2(0)+3=3
1 2(1)+3=5
2 2(2)+3=7
3 2(3)+3=9
 Day  Height(cm)
0 3
1 5
2 7
3 9
